Web site hosting FAQ > page 5
I should use the "XYZ" company, because they're a 'brand name' company, right?
Well, you could... and there's really no reason not to. I think that in general though, as consumers we tend to get locked into thinking that just because there is a brand name attached to a product or service that it's going to be of a good quality.
Here's another perspective
Often a brand name company will "jump on the bandwagon" and begin offering some kind of service simply because they see an opportunity to increase brand awareness. Some of these companies are beginning to appear as Web hosting providers.
Personally, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with this, as long as they can provide good value for your hosting dollars. Sometimes though, these companies have expanded too quickly into new markets and they are unable to provide consistent service.
The bottom line here is that even with 'brand name' providers, you need to do your homework - check their track record and talk to some of their current customers!
There's more on how you can do this in the next section.
