Any recommendations?
As a matter of fact, I do have a recommendation.
If you're looking for a reliable Web hosting company, include dreamhost.com on your 'shortlist' of Web hosting companies.
This site is being hosted by Dreamhost, and I am very, very pleased with the services they provide. Sure, I'm paying a little bit more than the last host I had, but they lost my entire site!! It's worth another 3 dollars a month for me to know that when I wake up in the morning, my Web site is still going to be there.
I have found Dreamhost to be reliable, reasonably priced, and very responsive to my questions. I have at my disposal a comprehensive 'control panel' that allows me to view my account status, the current and historical uptime status of the various services that I use (http, ftp, mail, telnet etc.)
I can add/edit/remove user accounts for my site, add sub-domains, order new domain names, etc. It is a very handy feature, and also includes a history of all of my 'support requests'. (I tend to ask a lot of questions...)
You also have access to your Web site logs, including the error log, which is very helpful when you're developing new tools for your Web site (I also tend to make a lot of errors...)
Currently, the historical 'uptime' status of my Web site since I moved to Dreamhost is 99.8497% I think that is amazing for reliability!
My recommendation is that you include Dreamhost on your 'shortlist', and then do your homework. Compare them against the other providers on your list, and make an informed decision.
